Sorry for the wait!!! Enjoy the final chapter of the short story!!

Business was booming, as everyone wanted to buy from the stand that Melpomene frequented. It got to such a high point that the pair were able to rent out and eventually buy the open space beneath Niki’s flat. They would have never even thought about looking at the space had there not been an anonymous donation to the stand.

Niki was in the back, mixing up some batter for the cupcakes. Meanwhile, the chef that they had hired, Bad, was minding the ovens which were full with the new muffins that he had insisted on trying. Jack called back into the kitchen from the front.

“Niki, he’s back!” She grinned, and dusted the flour off of her hands. Niki grabbed four experimental cupcakes from the tray and wrapped them in clear cellophane complete with a navy and pink bow. Niki had been so happy when the wrapping had graduated from the brown paper bags. She was also more than glad to test out new recipes on their friend, as Melpomene always seemed to attract customers yet drive them away. When she opened the door to the shop, Niki gasped. Melpomene sheepishly gestures to the myriad of villains behind him, including but not limited to Theseus, Achilles, and Bellerophon. The others waved behind them.

“Hello, I hope that you don’t mind if the Syndicate had a little meeting here?”

“We’re going to need more cupcakes.”

Chapter one: Scones

Niki turned the street corner, hands full of trays of pastry freshly baked from her oven at home to see Jack Manifold covered head to toe in powdered sugar. She sighed as he frantically tries to explain away the situation. It was then that Niki noticed the customer.

“Jack! I told you to be more professional around customers!” Niki hurries to set down the trays on their little booth.

“He snuck up on me!” Jack protests, frantically brushing off his apron. The stranger chuckles, and looks at the tray of fresh scones.

“It’s fine, I’m in no rush. How much for four of those?” He digs into his jeans pocket for his wallet. Niki reminisces about having pockets deep enough to store things in, but alas, the trials of women’s clothing.

“Eight dollars. Two per pastry.” The man hands Jack the money as Niki expertly wraps the treats in a brown lunch bag complete with a navy and pink ribbon. It wasn’t the fanciest, but it was something that Niki had insisted on for branding purposes. Jack makes change and Niki hands the customer the bag. He reaches into his wallet once more and places a bill into their meager tip jar. Jack grins, putting on an English accent like the customer.

“Thanks for the tip, big man. Means a lot.”

“Anytime. The name’s Wilbur, by the way. Not ‘big man’.” And with that, he was gone.

Jack looked around, confused.

“Where the fuck-“

Niki looked at the tip jar, gasping.

“Jack! He tipped with a hundred dollar bill!”

“Strange guy.”
