Halloween: A celebration observed on 31 October where people dress up and do fun activities including trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, playing games & pranks, visiting haunted attractions, and more. Halloween is best spent with people close to you.
Tommy sat at his desk with a textbook laid out in front of him. He sighed wearily, rubbing his already ruffled hair. A nearly empty cup of coffee sat by his hand, sitting atop a seemingly endless pile of homework. He groaned in frustration, cursing the Prime gods.
From above him, he heard footsteps pounding, followed by a shriek. His roommates Tubbo and Ranboo were getting ready to go out. It was his favourite holiday, Halloween, and here he was, doing homework and studying.
Ranboo's lanky 6'6" of unholiness was tripping down the stairs. Their whole body was covered with a white sheet that tangled around their feet as they stumbled down the stairs, struggling to see through the eye holes cut into the fabric. A much shorter boy with overgrown fluffy brown hair chased them down, somewhat waddling from the giant orange pumpkin suit he wore.
Profane, high-pitched screaming was heard as the unnaturally tall ghost tripped off the last few steps, as well as demonic laughter.
Tommy sighed, turning back to the text at hand. He absolutely did not want to be studying the founding of Snowchester when he could be toilet-papering houses and getting free candy with his best friends, but school was too important; he was in his last year, and he was trying very hard to do well. Plus, if he went out with his buddies he would be too tired the next morning to work his shift at Kinoko Coffee.
Tommy hated how responsible and mature he sounded.
He started to nod off, the boring words on the page blending. Maybe if he just closed his eyes for a few minutes, his roommates would be gone and so would the temptation of grabbing toilet paper and raw eggs. He would be able to study and do homework in peace. Suddenly, he felt two cold hands on his neck and he jumped, startling awake.
“Big T! Why aren’t you ready yet?” cried Tubbo. The smaller brunet was in his pumpkin costume, a pillowcase tucked under his arm.
“Wh— What do you mean I’m not ready?” Tommy’s brows furrowed. “I’m not going out tonight. Thought I’d told you that already.” His feelings dimmed a little. He would love to have a fun night out with his roommates, but there will only be one senior year and always more Halloweens.
“You’re not? What do you mean you’re not?!” Tubbo exclaimed. “Yes, you are, Big Man! Ranboo made you a costume. A demon and everything, like you wanted. Ain’t that right, Boo?”
“Um, well… I was bored.” Ranboo glanced apologetically at Tommy. “You don’t have to wear it if you don’t want to, and you don’t have to get candy with us, but honestly, you look like you need it.”
“Halloween is for babies,” Tommy sniffed.
“...I thought it was your favorite holiday?” Ranboo questioned.
Tommy scowled. “Why can’t you just forget everything, for once?”
“The point is,” Tubbo interjected with a sigh, “you need a break, Toms. Like, really badly. You’re half asleep on your homework. Maybe some sugar will do you good. And we already have a costume for you, and it’ll hurt Ranboo’s feelings if you don’t wear it. And we’re gonna toilet-paper Sapnap’s house later tonight. And we might be able to get those fluffy keychains from Mr. Sam. And Halloween just… wouldn’t really be the same without you.” Tubbo finished his statement a little sheepishly, as if embarrassed, but he didn’t take it back.
Tommy stared at his papers. There was still so much to do, and there would only be one senior year. But there would also only be one Halloween every year. Who knows where he’ll be next year? They might all be dead. Pretty dark, but it’s true. He had to take the chance to have fun with his best friends. And the idea of candy was pretty tempting…
Tommy took another gulp of coffee and pushed his chair back. “What colour is the costume?”
His heart swelled when he saw the bright grin taking over Tubbo’s features.
“Red, of course,” the shorter boy replied happily.
“Bright red?”
“The colour of the blood of your enemies,” Ranboo piped in hopefully, mimicking a British accent.
“I want to wear it.” Tommy stood up from his desk and ruffled Tubbo’s hair, much to the displeasure of the older brunet.
Ranboo rolled back and forth on the balls (haha, balls) of their feet, excited. The mist-grey sheet draped over their body swished as they turned, grabbing Tommy by the hand. “Come on, I’ll show you!”
Tommy followed them, trying to hide his smile. His best friends were such idiots.
Ranboo led him to their bedroom, where a bundle of red clothing lay. Bright red, the colour of the blood of Tommy’s enemies. His eyes widened when he saw the costume. It had a red tux vest glittering with sequins in pink and red, a matching sparkly bandit mask, a white dress shirt, and a red bow tie. It even came with a demon horn headband and a long, thin, spaded tail. “I couldn’t find a good pair of pants,” Ranboo said apologetically.
“It’s okay, I have khakis on,” Tommy replied, still in awe of the sheer epicness of the costume and Ranboo’s delicate needlework. “I wanna put it on. Get out.”
“Um?” Ranboo stuttered, “T-This is my room…?”
“I don’t care,” Tommy snapped, lightly pushing Ranboo’s arm. Glee was bubbling up inside of him like a can of cherry coke, and he struggled to contain it. He felt like a child again. “I want to put it on. Wait outside with Tubbo for me, yeah?”

Tommy’s face broke into a grin as he came out of the house to Tubbo’s squeal of delight and his roommates practically vibrating with excitement. “Toms! You look so dope! Gods, I’m jealous.”
“I’m glad it fits you, you look awesome,” Ranboo complimented shyly.
Tommy laughed. “I am such a Big Man. I’m so fucking hot.” He bumped Ranboo’s arm and stepped on Tubbo’s toe. “We have to bless the boomers with the presence of Thomas Simons Craft, the Poggest of Men.”
He doesn’t wait for his friends before starting down the street. He knew they’d follow. Sure enough, in a matter of seconds, Ranboo’s hand was in his and Tubbo was at his side like always.
As Tubbo handed him a pillowcase and a few rolls of toilet paper, Tommy pushed the worries of academics out of his head, instead focusing on Ranboo’s gentle nudges and Tubbo’s loud laugh.
“Oh, oh, oh!” Tubbo suddenly started. “Have you guys heard the latest song from Lovejoy?”
“Tommy, isn’t your brother in Lovejoy?” Ranboo asked, admiration in their voice.
Tommy nodded. “Yeah. They suck, not gonna lie. Not Ash, Joe, or Mark. I meant the other guy.”
The sun was retiring as they headed down the street, washing Tommy’s mask and vest with pink sparkles. The air was cool and dry, blowing crimson and gold leaves from reaching arms of bark. It was a peaceful afternoon, pretty chill for Halloween night. Tommy was a little glad his friends dragged him outside; he would’ve been pretty disappointed if he had missed the evening. But of course, he’d never admit that out loud. Thomas Simons Craft was the Biggest Man. He had no weaknesses.
(Except for Ranboo and Tubbo, but only because they were the deuteragonists of his life. Definitely not because he loved them.)
Hmm. It felt like something was missing.
“Where should we go first?” Tubbo asked.
Ah, of course. They needed drugs (candy).
“Let’s visit Awesamdude first,” Ranboo suggested.
Sam was a nice guy who lived a few houses down. He had been friends with the trio for over ten years, ever since Tommy and Tubbo arrived at his doorstep as orphans. They had called him “Awesamdude” because he was, well, an awesome dude, and the nickname had stuck.
“I wonder what he has this year,” Tubbo agreed. “Last year, it was soda. Before that, potato salad in a bag. Before that, he gave out spiders.” He shuddered at the memory.
“Don’t be mean to Shroud!” Tommy pouted.
The boys laughed and giggled, chatted and shouted their way down the street toward Mr. Sam’s house to collect their yearly tax. Awesamdude was a Creeper from Minecraft, and he gave them rubber ducks.
“I’m calling mine Benson,” Ranboo declared, their body practically vibrating with joy as they held the duck in front of their eyes, six feet in the air.
Tommy smiled, and he felt the lightest he had been in days.

Yells filled the night, along with shrieks and wild laughter. Ranboo was tripping on their costume as they and Tommy ran from Tubbo. The brunet chasing the duo was pretty high on sugar, cackling maniacally. In his hands was a pillowcase nearly filled with candy, similar to his friends’.
“Oh, gods,” Ranboo cried, terrified.
Tommy coughed out a laugh, choking on his giggles. His feet pounded against the pavement leading up to a big white house.
A black-haired man in a white shirt opened the door a little groggily. He rubbed at his amber eyes, stifling a yawn. “What the hell…?”
“Trick-or-treat, bitch!” Tommy cried, shoving the pillowcase in Sapnap’s face.
The older man recoiled, surprised. “What the hell? Aren’t you guys a little too old to be trick-or-treating?”
Tubbo crossed his arms and scowled, the pumpkin hat slipping halfway over his face. Ranboo looked a little worried. Tommy smirked, trying to look as intimidating as possible. “We’re just really tall kids, like how you’re just a really short old man.”
Sapnap stared at them, flabbergasted. He jerked his chin towards the lanky, awkward ghost in the back. “What’s their excuse, then?”
“They’re a really tall kid.”
“Shouldn’t you be doing homework, or studying, or something?” Sapnap asked, sounding a bit more impatient.
The question made Tommy pause. Then, his face broke into a sassy grin. “Well, yes, but I’m a bad bitch.”
Sapnap groaned, looking constipated. He pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing. “Look, man, I don’t have any more candy. I’m also watching a movie with Punz and Dream, and I would like to get back to it. Right, see ya.”
Tommy stuck his tongue out at the door that shut in his face, then flipped it off. He turned back to his buddies, disgruntled. “This is shit,” he complained. “Karl gives good schwag every year. Why did it have to be Sapnap?”
“I don’t think Karl’s available,” Ranboo said uncertainly. “It’s okay, Tommy. We can try some more houses. It’s barely past midnight.”
A sly smile spread across Tubbo’s face. “Or…”
Tommy started to grin as well. “Or…?”
Tubbo held up a roll of toilet paper, the firelight of TNT glowing in his eyes. A chill ran down Tommy’s spine. Pumpkins have never been more terrifying.
“Oh, yes. I like that idea.”
With that, Tommy tossed a toilet paper roll to Ranboo, and the trio got to work. As silently as possible, they snuck around the perimeter of the old guys’ yard, slinging toiletries over fences, trees, the roof, and even the statue of Dream Exdi.
Tommy struggled to contain his laughter as Ranboo tripped over a stray length of toilet paper, flailing awkwardly to try and get back on their feet. The tall kid managed to get free of the toilet paper, but they stumbled and toppled over into a pile of leaves with an oof.
That was the breaking point. Tubbo burst into guffaws as Ranboo stood back up, picking leaves out of their sheet. The white fabric was stained with mud, and a horrified look was on Ranboo’s face. “I hand-sewed this!” they cried, devastated.
Tommy started to laugh as well. He found he couldn’t stop. The situation wasn’t funny at all, but it just… was. He felt strangely giddy like the cherry pop inside of him was bubbling out. The stress of school fizzed away, and he stood in a boomer’s yard vandalised by toiletries, in a red demon costume, laughing with his friends.
Damn, I need to touch more grass.
“What the—”
The laughter grew louder at the surprised voice of Sapnap. The ravenette stood in the doorway, gaping at the sight of his property mummified in Charmin Ultra-Softs. “What the fuck?!” he cried, horrified. “My man, you guys realize how long that’ll take to clean up?!”
Tubbo blinked. “Um, that wasn’t us. That was… Dream… Yeah, Dream did it.”
“Dream was in the house! WITH ME!”
Tubbo raised his eyebrows. “Or was he?”
“Wh— Huh?!”
“Guys, run,” Tommy giggled, taking off at full speed down the street, his sneakers swishing through fallen leaves. Soon, two pairs of footsteps followed, and Tommy’s grin widened. He could still hear Sapnap’s shouts.
At around two in the morning, the trio returned to their little house. Tommy’s homework and textbooks still lay strewn across his desk, but he didn’t care much. With a sigh, he dropped his pillowcase to the floor and flopped onto the couch.
Ranboo sank into the cushions as well, pressing into Tommy’s side. They ran a hand through their fluffy brown hair, discarding the dirty ghost costume on the floor. “That was… interesting,” they commented.
“It was,” Tubbo agreed brightly, slumping onto the couch on Tommy’s other side. “We got a lot more drugs than usual.”
“Candy, Tubbo, not drugs,” Ranboo groaned.
“Guys. He called us men,” Tommy said suddenly.
“What?”
“Who?”
“Sapnap.” Tommy’s eyes were wide. “He called us men after he caught us TP-ing his house.”
“Fuck yeah,” Tubbo pumped a fist. “We’re men now.”
“Big Men,” Ranboo agreed, smoothing Tommy’s hair affectionately.
Tommy smiled. They were Big Men, and they had a fucking awesome night.
