Chapter 2
Dream groggily sat up to a continuous knocking on the door disturbing his sleep and hastily clipped on his mask.
"What in the ever-loving f*ck..." He turned towards the flimsy wooden door, rolled his eyes annoyedly, and swung open the door. I really should get a soundproof one installed later. "Can I help you?" He asked through gritted teeth, then raised an eyebrow.
"Chief Will of Wilburg," Dream said, amused.
Wilbur seemed slightly out of breath. "Dream. I know we haven't been on the best of terms-"
"You blew up a few things the last time you stayed, our chief got quite frustrated. Mind getting to the point?" Dream said joke-condescendingly, but to his surprise, Wilbur immediately nodded.
"Of course. Dream, to cut it simply, a pack of mobs are coming to attack our villages." Wilbur said in a rush, which was... confusing. Wilbur's village had some of the best manpower out of all of them.
"Don't you have an army of dogs and that one dude with the boar mask..." Dream thought for a moment. "Technoblade? I've heard he's the only one who got to serve as a general in the royal army before coming back a while ago."
Wilbur shook his head. "Dream, you don't understand. Techno's gone on a trip to visit Phil. We've tried sending a messenger but no one's come back yet, and the mobs... They keep spawning. In bigger groups, right after they die." He shivered and clutched at his sweater collar. "Countless, sleepless nights, lost on fretting about losing more villagers every day. You know I'm not a good leader in battle. We've sent a messenger to the palace as well but we don't know when they'll take action. We need you and Nick, Dream." He looked away for a moment, then grimaced. "Please."
Dream hid a face of discomfort behind his mask. Every time I try to fight, Nightmare becomes even more difficult to control. But... His lips twisted into a scowl. What can I do when an old friend is in danger?
He took a deep breath. "Alright, Wilbur." Dream smiled. "Let's go get him."

[30 minutes later]
George couldn't shake off the foreboding feeling, nagging away at the back of his mind.
He had gotten a report from the village of Wilburg that a strange phenomenon was happening with a certain group of mobs. Apparently, they would regenerate with even more numbers every time they were fended off. Some of the scouts he sent to gather information would even go as far as to say that they were doubling.
In the years of enchantment and potion study that George had gone through as a child, this one was a piece of cake. The only problem is that I don't know if the villages will hold out until I get there. George pinched his nose in frustration, then sighed. He didn't like sending his army out too much, it spooked almost everyone as if they were in trouble. As if I'd want more tension when we've just gotten out of war... But this was an emergency.
"A classic case of a mob enchanted with Hydra's curse, huh?" Hydras were known to be able to grow 2 heads if one was sliced off, and the same enchantment was happening with the mobs.
"Sterling," George called, and within moments a female knight wearing a suit of armor with astoundingly long platinum blonde hair kneeled behind him.
"You called, your majesty?" She glanced up at him.
"Send a small section of our rank 5 soldiers to Wilburg. Help them hold off until I arrive there." George started packing a small vial and a few other things but was stopped.
"A-actually, Your majesty..." A small bead of sweat dripped off of her temple. "That issue has been resolved around 5 minutes ago."
He turned around in confusion. "Has a mage from another kingdom interfered?" Only royalty and mages are allowed to study magic, how would they have stopped it this quickly?
"Apparently not, your majesty," She mumbled. "It seems they had someone who was powerful enough to take care of it themselves.
George raised an eyebrow. "Get a horse ready for me, then." His dark amber eyes glinted in the torchlight of the dimly lit library. "Can I... meet this person?"
***
Dream's face was stained with onyx black markings as Nightmare barked out a sadistic laugh.
"Haah... how long has it been since I was able to fight again? Dream never lets me out anymore these days..." Nightmare grinned. "So entertaining how humans react."
Nightmare! Give me control of my body back, you vicious maniac-
The last skeleton shot an arrow towards Dream's ear and Nightmare deflected it with a netherite axe that was emitting an ominous-looking shadowy wisp. It went straight through its skull and sent a shiver down everyone's spine, leaving the skeletal corpse smoking until it turned into ashes. Interestingly enough, two more didn't immediately spawn.
"Dream..." Sapnap cautiously approached him and put a shaky hand on his shoulder. "Are you okay-"
Dream glared at him. "Don't f*cking touch me," Nightmare snarled as he swung the axe at him. The spot where the blade had touched the shield started to smoke and wither into a shadowy purple.
NIGHTMARE!
Nightmare cackled at Dream's sudden reaction. Worried about your friend when your life might be in danger. So brave, He hissed in a mocking tone.
We both know that axe is cursed, Nightmare. I told you not to take it out. I would've used it if it weren't...
Tch. Annoying. Would you just shut the f*ck up already?
Sapnap staggered back and lowered his shield, then looked up. "Hold on. Is that-"
The sound of hooves against the dusty sandstone cliff above them turned their attention towards them, as George glanced down at the rest of the injured village army.
"So that's the one that's been in my nightmares," His face darkened as he turned his horse away from the scene towards his soldiers. "Make sure everyone is okay and they're healed by our medics. As for him," He gestured to Dream with his head. "Make sure he's detained."
A pair of soldiers reluctantly approached Dream, and to their confusion, Nightmare snickered. "Well, this is a situation I don't wanna be a part of. Good luck with interrogating someone with memory problems. It's not my cup of tea, I can tell you that."
What seemed like a shadowy version of Dream pulled away from his physical body and dissipated into the air as he stumbled, then eventually fell into a royal soldier's arms.
George hummed in amusement. "I think we're finished here." He gestured to Wilbur and Sapnap. "Bring your townsfolk with us, we'll discuss everything at the palace later."
Chapter 3
"So," George said slowly, "You're saying you have a demon parasite that can possess you if it tries hard enough but it somehow decided it wanted to possess you yesterday?" He glanced at Dream skeptically and looked back down at the ID book.
"I know it sounds a bit-"
"Stereotypical? Yeah, if I had a nickel for every time someone and their mother came in to tell me something remotely related to that..." He sighed, irritated. "Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that's how we got funds to reinforce and renovate our palace."
Dream laughed lightly, then caught himself with a cough when George gave him a sharp look.
"It said you had memory problems, one of my guards told me. So how come you remember this now?" He questioned. Dream made a noise of irritation, then sighed. "He lies a lot... especially if he thinks it'll help his case."
George looked into his unreadable eyes through the bars of the cell, then abruptly stood up. "Well, I guess for the time being you'll stay here.
"Wait-" Dream automatically tried to stand up, but the reinforced steel collar held him back with a slight tug, making him let out an ouf sound. He sat back down, shooting the chain a miffed look. "What is this collar for anyway? It's not like I'm going anywhere like this..." He came to a sudden realization.
"THE AXE!" He exclaimed, anxious. "Where did you put the axe!?"
George flinched at the sudden noise, then calmed himself. "Your friend has your items. For now, I told him to put it in a chest. And don't worry," He assured Dream, who tried to stand up again(almost successful) and open his mouth, "No one got hurt."
Dream sighed in relief. The way he got so panicked when talking about the axe was quite amusing to George. "Any other questions?"
He remembered the second part of his inquiry. "Ah right, the collar. I guess there's no purpose to keep the chain, so I'll have my guards change that for you later. and for the collar itself..." He took out a button and placed it on a Redstone machine labeled Escape attempt.
"That's only going to concern you if you try to escape before your time here ends as a suspect. You can be patient, right?" The copper flecks in his bronze eyes danced in the torchlight for a brief moment while he gave him a searching look, then promptly left the interrogation cell.
"Ah, by the way," George said, peering back. "You'll be released once I finish talking with Chief Wilbur and Sapnap and do one final check. So really, just be patient."
He left, for real this time, and Dream was left all alone with his thoughts.
Sooo... You wanna talk-
And this annoying little parasite.
SHUT THE F*CK UP NIGHTMARE BEFORE I THROW A CHAIR AT YOU
Okay, jeez...
***
Dream felt slightly conflicted as he left the massive iron gates of the palace, clutching the netherite axe closely to his chest as to not hurt anyone. Occasionally the blade would start pressing into him and accidentally eat away at his clothes, and he would make a noise of alarm and pull it slightly away from himself again, purple smoke rising from his chest.
"Are you sure you don't want me to hold it?" Sapnap piped up, hoping to lighten the mood. "Your turtleneck shirt's starting to burn as well-" He cackled with laughter as Dream quickly pinched the hole together and held the axe with one arm and elbowed Sapnap with the other, flushing.
"Tell me that sooner, would you?" Dream snapped, embarrassed. Sure enough, there was a thin slit of a hole in his shirt, letting the brisk autumn air fill his clothes. He shivered and folded the scorched cloth together more tightly.
"Anyway..." Sapnap eyed the coal-black axe warily, it shimmering a violent shade of magenta back at him. "What's up with that thing? When it touched my shield, the wood got pretty burnt up."
"NOTHING! It's-" Dream raised his voice in a panic, then took a deep breath. "It's nothing. Nothing important, anyway." He muttered. Dream was clearly bothered by something, but Sapnap decided not to press it.

A thump near the door interrupted Phil and Techno's conversation.
"I'll get it, you stay here," Phil said as he stood up from his armchair, ruffling his wings. One had most of its vantablack feathers almost completely wrapped in bandages rendering it useless, while the other sat perfectly fine across from it. He swung the door open and to his surprise, was met with a messenger. His red and white shirt was drenched in snow and sweat, and almost immediately collapsed to the carpeted floor, shivering.
"Oh sh*t, you alright mate?" He brushed off the snow and struggled to get him off the floor until he eventually gave up and called Techno for assistance. They both sat him down on the armchair and wrapped him in a blanket, as well as sit him onto a wooden chair near the fireplace.
Suddenly, the messenger started to stir, making a weak noise of distress. "I'll read the note," Techno offered in his usual gruff voice, and Phil gave him a grateful smile. He picked up the scroll satchel and sat down at the table across from them, plucking open the now stale rose-patterned wax stamp.
(Messenger's POV)
"...my."
"Tommy."
"Tommy?"
Tommy blinked and immediately flinched as Philza, covered in scars, filled his vision and waved a hand in his face. "Hi, Phil..." He murmured drowsily, his mind lapsing in and out of consciousness. He felt warmth from an unknown direction, but still felt as if he was stuck back in the frigid alpines. Why in the everloving f*ck would they send me here with just my T-shirt? I get they were in a rush, but still...
Tommy limply put a hand to his forehead and almost immediately pulled it back in a slurred motion. "Where the f*ck..." He suddenly tried to sit up. "Right, the scroll-"
Philza nudged him gently back onto the chair. "Rest for now, you've done your job. You can take a bath when you're ready, and you can leave with a horse in the morning. Speaking of horses," He gave Tommy a concerned look. "Did you come all the way here without one?"
"Actually-"
"Phil...?" Techno walked up to both of them, his towering height casting somewhat of a shadow in the dimly lit cabin. "I think you might wanna see this." He handed the damp, yellowing scroll to Phil and grimaced.
Tommy couldn't tell if it was the fact he didn't have his glasses, but all the squinting Phil was doing didn't seem too good. Finally, he tore his gaze away from the scroll, then called to Techno.
"Get 3 horses ready for us, would you?"
