The Anarchist Refuge, otherwise known as the Anarchists for the individual members, was a faction started by Technoblade, initially starting out as his retirement home, before becoming a refuge for like-minded anarchists, all seeking retribution against L'Manberg.
History[]
Self-Exile and Pacifism[]
After the Manberg vs Pogtopia war, Technoblade left his base and moved to an area near a snow village in a barren snow wasteland and built a cabin. He eventually asked Phil for help transporting his rare Halloween mobs and the sole remaining cow to his retirement home a week later. After being helped, Techno then gave Phil a compass that would be able to lead to his base as well as a few emeralds as a token of friendship and appreciation, demonstrating a close relationship between the two. In the following days, Techno looked back on on his violent past, and decided to take an oath of pacifism, hoping to change into a better person.
Techno would also take this time to meet with a new faction, Boomerville. After telling LazarBeam and Vikkstar123 a brief history of the SMP, they all agreed that L'Manberg sucked, and that anarchy was the way to go. They also all agreed to make a church of YouTube Memberships to rival Church Prime. Techno would also meet with ConnorEatsPants to discuss an alliance between the two. Connor agreed to let Techno use his land as a staging ground for a future attack on L'Manberg, in exchange for Techno gathering materials for him.
Weeks later, Techno would be contacted by Dream to meet him at the spot where they first spoke. When Techno arrived, Dream had warned him of a certain few hunters who were looking to kill him to cross him off the hit list. Dream then gave him a map that led him to a woodland mansion, where Techno retrieved several mystical totems of undying.
Execution[]

On December 16, 2020, the Butcher Army, a secret police force from L'Manberg aiming to execute Technoblade, arrived at Techno's base. They took the compass that led to Technoblade's cabin from Phil's home and placed him under house arrest. When the Butcher Army arrived, Techno was already prepared due to being tipped off by Phil. After some failed negotiations, a battle broke out and Techno manage to overpower nearly the entire army. However, Quackity would end up ending the fight after taking Techno's horse, Carl, hostage. To save Carl, Techno surrendered and dropped his armor, potions, and weapons, as well as agreeing to come with them peacefully.
Techno was taken to L'Manberg and trapped in a guillotine while Tubbo gave a short speech. However, the execution was interrupted by Punz, who attacked the L'Manbergians and placed TNT on the podium. In the chaos, Quackity activated the guillotine, dropping an anvil on Techno. However, Techno had kept a totem on him when dropping his items earlier, and used it to save his life. Techno fled the scene and followed Dream and a rescued Carl to the Final Control Room, which had basic gear for making an escape. Quackity managed to follow and confront Techno, where he expressed his hatred for Techno, his desire to accumulate power in L'Manberg, and his plan to kill him right there. However, Techno managed to kill Quackity with a pickaxe and steal the majority of his items, escaping through the sewer system to his base. On his voyage back, he reflected upon events and realized that his pacifist vows could not be upheld. Technoblade then permanently broke his vow of peace and turned back to his violent ways.
L'Manberg-Anarchist Conflict[]

Upon returning to his cabin, Techno found Tommy lurking in the area. After seeing Tommy was now living at his cabin, the two would start to argue about why Tommy was there and who owned the house. However Techno, after realizing the benefits of possibly keeping Tommy around, would propose an alliance to help Tommy get his discs back in exchange for helping Techno further his own goals. After a lot of indecision, Tommy reluctantly agreed, founding a new faction in opposition to L'Manberg. Techno would also show Tommy his secret vault containing over a hundred wither skulls, clearly implying his intentions to use them to destroy L'Manberg, though he would receive a bit of pushback from Tommy.
Ranboo and Ghostbur would soon arrive to talk with Techno and Tommy. Techno distrusted Ranboo since he was part of the Butcher Army, but after Ranboo explained his thoughts and returned Techno's armor set, Techno allowed Ranboo to stay and help them. Together, they went mining for netherite with beds. At the end of the day, Tommy, Techno, and Ranboo bonded, listening to Tommy's Blocks disc while looking at the moon. After Tommy left, Techno told Ranboo that he had been used and explained his own experience of being used by Pogtopia. This line struck deep into Ranboo's heart, who realized that L'Manberg was only using him for their personal goals.
Tommy and Techno performed a series of raids and covert missions in L'Manberg using invisibility potions, establishing a Hound Army in the sewers and determining where the Butcher Army kept Techno's gear, planning to take it back using aforementioned minor terrorism. Ghostbur would also move in during this time, making a house for himself and Tommy next to Techno's cabin. Techno also went on several solo missions into L'Manberg, most notably rescuing Phil from house arrest. Phil moved to live with Techno and Tommy, convinced from his unjust house arrest that L'Manberg was corrupt, and Techno continued breeding his Hound Army. Ranboo, who felt guilty for his service in the Butcher Army, helped the anarchists cure zombie villagers as well. Techno and Tommy made several more missions into L'Manberg, retrieving Techno's weapons. They forced Tubbo to give back Techno's rocket launcher and his pickaxe by taking Connor hostage, and attacked L'Manberg in order to get back Techno's last remaining items. During the latter mission, They would find out about the Green Festival after interrogating Fundy and decided to try and use the events of the festival to get Tommy's discs back.
War[]

During the Green Festival, Tommy and Techno went to L'Manberg to crash the festival. When they arrived, the witnessed Dream and the Butcher Army discussing the apparent destruction of the Community House. After secretly following the group to the destroyed landmark, Tommy witnessed Dream accusing him of destroying the Community House, leading him to making himself known to defend himself. This lead to a confrontation between the Anarchists and the L'Manberg government, ending with Tommy telling Tubbo to give Dream his last disc. Tommy would also choose to side with L'Manberg over Technoblade, after refusing Techno's offer to escape with him. Dream would end up revealing his desire to destroy L'manberg, as he had only been pretending to be allied with Tubbo to get the disc, and would request Techno's aid in destroying the nation. The two would leave the ruins of the Community House and later discuss how to destroy L'Manberg, with Technoblade showing Dream his Second Vault.
The next day, Techno and Phil would begin preparing supplies for the attack, and Dream would arrive to further discuss the plan with them. After agreeing on the plan, the three left to gather most of the Hound Army, and make their way to L'manberg to begin their attack. Upon their arrival, they would be met by Tommy and Eret, who would quickly warn the rest of the unprepared L'Manberg defense force. Tubbo shot Techno, and the first blood spilled would commence the battle. Techno acted as a diversion while Dream set up the TNT that would rain down upon L'Manberg. As the battle progressed, Techno fired rockets into the air to signal Phil to begin spawning withers. After over a dozen withers were spawned, the L'Manberg defenders fell into panic. Using this to his advantage, Techno began picking off the force one by one. Eventually, Dream would begin dropping the TNT, finishing the battle and putting a final end to L'Manberg.
Doomsday War Aftermath[]
After the nation fell and Techno's revenge was exacted, Techno and Phil returned home with the remainder of the dogs, talking about different farms and the life of anarchy. Dream chose not to speak with the anarchists afterward; their loose alliance ended with the desolation of L'Manberg and they went their separate ways. After meeting with Phil, Ranboo was allowed to move in to the refuge. Ranboo would end up remaking the Axe of Peace for Techno as a thanks for letting him move in, though Techno would try to hide his appreciation upon accepting the gift. Some time after, Techno and Phil would create an official anarchist military force, known as the The Syndicate.
The Syndicate[]
Technoblade was tasked with finding members for their new faction. He began searching the ruins of L'Manberg when he received a message from Niki, inviting him to her city as she had heard he wanted to talk. Upon meeting, the two spoke about anarchy, and Technoblade talked about how impressed he was because she burned L'Mantree. Niki said that the offer to join him in anarchy was tempting, but declined his offer because her goals were currently different from anarchist ideals. Technoblade left her and said that he wasn't going to ask people for a while, as he thought Niki would be great and that he probably couldn't convince anyone else if he couldn't convince her.
Snowchester[]
After the first meeting of the Syndicate, its members set out to investigate Snowchester. Upon arriving at Snowchester, the group met up with Tubbo, who gave them a tour. Tubbo told them that Snowchester was not a country, but simply an isolationist and militaristic colony. Tubbo also showed the members of the Syndicate the nukes, and when the group asked why Tubbo would need nukes, Tubbo cited that it is simply for self-defense. This made the Syndicate extremely suspicious of the faction. However, since Snowchester had not yet done anything, the Syndicate accepted the self-defense excuse.
The Favor[]
On June 1, 2021, the members of the Syndicate met up at Technoblade's cabin to celebrate his birthday. They set off a few fireworks, joked around, and ate some cake. Philza then decided to tell the members about Wilbur's revival, which surprised both Techno and Niki, as well as upsetting the latter. The four of them talked about how Schlatt's return would be even worse. They also brought up Ghostbur, which caused Niki to freak out, but the others managed to calm her down. They then started to talk about the new risks of governments popping up.
Whilst Technoblade left to talk to Quackity, Phil told Ranboo about "her," a woman that allegedly helped grow a forest that had recently sprouted near the cabin, although the contents of this conversation are unknown. When Techno returned to the others, the group continued celebrating his birthday. Phil then showed the other Syndicate members the training area under the cabin. After Phil asked who Techno spoke to, Techno briefly talked about it, although he didn't mention who he talked to or what they were talking about in great detail. Most of them didn't persist, although Niki asked if it was Wilbur because the person "sounded like someone with empty promises." The members then decided to just party and forget about it for the time being.
Techno would end up falling into a trap at the prison, and he would be held there for three months, gathering information from Dream and forging a deeper alliance along the way. By the three month mark, Phil would activate the Syndicate's ender pearl stasis chamber and teleport Techno from his cell right before Quackity could strike him with a pickaxe. The two would begin planning to break Dream out of prison, as Techno still had a favor to repay.
Breaking Dream out of Prison[]
Main article: Pandora's Vault jailbreak
On November 28, 2021, Technoblade gathered the members of the Syndicate that were not imprisoned. Philza and Niki showed up to the meeting, and Techno discussed the plans to break Dream out of Pandora's Vault and how Sam had imprisoned Ranboo. With the development of Ranboo being imprisoned, the rest of the Syndicate joined Technoblade in his plan to break Dream and Ranboo out of Pandora's Vault. During the meeting, Techno also discovered his dog at this meeting and named it Apollo, recruiting Apollo into the Syndicate.
After the other members of the Syndicate agreed to join in on the jailbreak, the group discussed the plans and roles of each member while gathering supplies and navigating towards the prison. Techno would break into the prison with Apollo by his side, and Niki and Phil would stay outside to create a distraction and activate Techno's ender pearl stasis chamber if he was unable to escape. Since Niki did not reveal her membership to the Syndicate and affiliation with the anarchists to outsiders, she could talk and mislead the crowd while also secretly spawning withers nearby.
Techno succeeded in breaking Dream and Ranboo out. Connor, who was imprisoned for "stolen valor," was also broken out at the same time. However, the Syndicate also faced some issues during the jailbreak and escape. Apollo was killed by Sam while breaking Ranboo and Connor out, and Sapnap saw Niki spawn withers during the chaos. Ranboo was also killed by Sam during the escape and lost his final canon life during the group's escape. Nonetheless, the Syndicate and Dream managed to regroup at Technoblade's cabin without any other losses.
After the Jailbreak[]
After the Syndicate and Dream reconvened at the Anarchist Refuge, Dream gave the netherite supplies back to Technoblade and left. Connor, now with the Syndicate, agreed to join the anarchist organization after Techno offered him the chance. Connor began building his new house with dirt in the mountains near Techno's cabin.
Before "The Incident"[]

On December 17, 2022, Philza organized and prepared for Niki to come over for baking lessons by feeding his and Techno's pets, mourning Techno, and getting rid of food that he didn't want Niki to see. Niki arrived as Phil was still organizing, and the two then started baking. In the middle of the baking lesson, Phil heard voices telling him to "get out" and saying "it's not safe." Niki, noticing Phil jumping and acting stressed, asked him if something was wrong, and Phil brushed it off by saying that he was tired and jumping into a nearby puddle to wake himself up. However, shortly after, the same voice told him to run. Phil jumped and proceeded to ask Niki if she heard the voice, and Niki responded she didn't while attempting to calm Phil down.
While standing on the porch of Philza and Techno's home, the two heard a lighting strike. Shortly after, the Goddess of Death, Kristin, appeared, catching both by surprise. Upon meeting, Kristin told the two that it took her everything to visit them in their world. Kristin greeted Niki by her name, much to Niki's shock, and Kristin explained that she watches over their world. Phil then explained that he and Kristen met a long time ago and that Kristin is the Goddess of Death. After Phil questioned Kristin's reason for appearing, Kristin told the two they don't have much time and that she wasn't able to protect them against something destructive (the Project Early Dawn missile) that was coming. She then explained that their tools were not sufficient to protect them and that they needed to flee using an End portal. Phil and Niki questioned what End portals were, much to Kristin's shock, and Kristin explained the structure, leading to Phil and Niki realizing that she was talking about the Syndicate meeting room table. Kristin responded in horror and asked the two to lead her to it.
After some preparation, Phil led Kristin and Niki to the Syndicate room. Upon arriving at the table, Kristin asked Phil for an axe to destroy the table in preparation for its activation. While Kristin prepared the portal, Niki found Connor, who revealed that he was a ghost and was bound to a pink sheep named Rosie. After placing the eyes of ender and activating the portal, Kristin asked the three to jump into the portal and reminded them they didn't have much time left. Phil then asked about Ranboo and MICHAEL, and Kristin revealed that she made sure Ranboo and Michael were safe before arriving to meet Phil and Niki. With the reassurance of Ranboo's safety and the safety of the world beyond the portal, the four jumped in. Connor jumped in first, also bringing Rosie, followed by Niki. After Kristin comforted Phil by telling him that they needed to jump in and that everything would be okay, Phil agreed and followed Kristin into the portal.

Foreign relations[]

Greater Dream SMP | Neutral/positive
|
Whilst the high ranking members of the Anarchist Refuge have had good relations with Dream in the past, the faction's shares no goals with the SMP. It's also worth noting that Technoblade mentions a "kingdom" when talking about his reasons to form the Syndicate, most likely referring to Dream SMP. However, After the Technoblade, Tubbo, and King Eret of the Dream SMP rescued Michael and threw Sam in the Prison, they all formed as new group known as The Revengers. Considering Eret is the only remaining representative of the Greater Dream SMP, we can assume the two factions are now on decent if not good terms by default. |
Eggpire | Very negative
|
After seeing a poster with the message, "Answer its call, join the Eggpire," Techno said that it sounded a lot like a government.[1] On February 13, 2021, Bad introduced Techno and Ranboo to the Egg while also attempting to get CaptainPuffy on its side. The Egg attempted to convince them to join it, but the three were able to resist its call. The two members of the Syndicate sided with Puffy against the egg in a group they called the "Pro-Omelette" side.[2] Ranboo also later returned to the Egg and vowed to destroy it.[3]
At the first meeting of the Syndicate, Phil brought up the issue of the Eggpire, and the members agreed that it sounded tyrannical and would need further investigation.[4] Technoblade later joined Quackity in attacking the egg and Eggpire at the Red Banquet, as the members deemed the Eggpire against their goals of anarchy.[5] |
Neutral/positive

Mentioned in the first meeting of The Syndicate, Technoblade and Phil heard rumors of the mysterious colony that had formed after the Doomsday War, founded by L'Manberg's former leader Tubbo.[6] They met with Tubbo on the same day, questioning their beliefs and organization. The Syndicate members seemed quite impressed with the community, as they were a "colony" formed only as a safe haven to protect themselves from outside threats. Technoblade later voiced his concerns of Snowchester based on their use of nuclear weapons, but decided to just keep his eye on the faction as it didn't seem as if it was doing anything exceedingly tyrannical. Following the prison breakout, Techno and Tubbo agreed to work together to help save MICHAEL after Technoblade reaffirmed Snowchester's lack of government. After the two of them, and Eret, rescued Michael and threw Sam in the Prison, they all formed as new group known as The Revengers, forging an unofficial alliance between all three of there factions. |
