The Guardian XP Farm, also dubbed Atlantis, L'Mantis, STABlantis, Sitnalta, The Hole in the Ocean, or Casa de Hole, is the experience farm built in the middle of the ocean beyond Tubbo's jungle base at roughly X 1,300 and Z 13,000. It was created by Awesamdude and Tubbo, with assistance from BadBoyHalo, Antfrost, Punz, Ponk, HBomb, Ranboo, Fundy, and Eret.
History[]
Ideas and planning[]
While searching for tridents with Fundy, Tubbo stumbled upon an ocean monument. Tubbo remarked that he'd wanted a big project to work on during a stream, as he hadn't done one of those in a long time, and decided that he'd drain the ocean around the monument and create a guardian experience farm.
Tubbo asked Awesamdude if he wanted to join him in doing so, as both were interested in redstone and massive contraptions such as spawners that could level them up faster than the spider spawner back in the Greater Dream SMP region. Sam agreed, and the two began collecting sand to smelt into glass through Sam's super smelter. They then traveled to a desert via Antfrost's Nether portal and managed to collect a large amount of sand before deciding to take up the project the next day.
Beginning the boundaries[]
The next day, the pair traveled out into the ocean after gathering materials and successfully defeated the monument, killing all of the Elder Guardians. They then began plotting out the perimeters of the area around the monument. After placing a couple of beacons above the center of the monument, they started to encircle the temple with a tall circular glass wall from the ocean floor to the surface that had a 51 block radius. They were joined by Antfrost and BadBoyHalo, who helped them with supplies and building down the glass for the barrier.
After more collection of glass and materials, including "borrowing" nautilus shells for a Conduit, the group managed to complete the barrier. They began flattening out the seafloor and clearing out the area inside the walls, all while being attacked by Guardians. Punz joined and offered to help as well, and the five of them worked to make a dent in flattening the ground.
The next day, Sam and Tubbo returned with aqua affinity helmets and invisibility potions. With some help from Ponk, they managed to gather enough ore to make a fully powered beacon set to Haste II. They finished mining all of the blocks within the barrier and began forming the sand grid to drain the water around the monument. Sam had to log off to participate in a Twitch Rivals tournament, and Tubbo left shortly after, both promising to finish the task the next day.
Draining process[]
After a few days, Sam returned by himself to continue working on the sand grid. He used up all the sand that he had and then decided to trade back Ponk's iron blocks that had been provided to him to power the haste beacon.
A couple of days later, Tubbo and Punz returned to help Sam with the sand grid. They started draining the water with sponges and built a Nether portal on the wall to quickly access the Nether to dry the sponges faster. Due to the limited amount of sand available, they began redistributing the sand towards the center of the circle after the 3x3 sections of the grid were successfully drained. During this time, Punz was promoted to third-in-command of the building crew by Sam.
After Tubbo had finished for the day, Ponk and HBomb joined to help drain and move the sand grid. Sam came to the realization that the project would take much longer than expected and continued the draining on his own, long after the others had left.
After about 25% of the circle was drained, Tubbo, Sam and Punz started draining the water using 3 block wide sand strips instead of a 3x3 block grid. To make up for the potential inefficiencies of the new method, Sam used scaffolding to help collect the sponges easily. Over the next couple of days, Sam and Punz continued the process until exactly one half of the glass circle was fully drained. The project was then left on hold for nearly two weeks while the members worked on completing their own personal tasks on the server.
A few days before the Manberg vs Pogtopia War was set to begin, Tubbo and Sam returned to the project and continued the draining process.
Using flying machines[]
After returning to the project, Sam and Tubbo realized that a flying machine would be a much better method than placing the sand by hand. Tubbo logged on and attempted to built them after much turmoil and research. It didn't work, but Tubbo left it there to impress Sam when he came on later. Sam was very impressed, and surprised that they hadn't had the idea to do it earlier. Tubbo eventually settled on basic sand pushing machine, where a piston would simply push sand that they placed. Later on, Sam upped the tick rate of Tubbo's piston machine, making it push sand at a faster rate.
The project was abandoned once again, as Tubbo focused on his duties as president of New L'Manberg. Weeks later, he returned with Ranboo and Fundy, using the sand pushing machines to complete all of the rows. The trio then continued draining the rows, leaving only a few left to complete.
Completing the draining process[]
On December 15, 2020, Sam and Tubbo completed fully draining the interior of the Ocean Monument. They gained assistance from Ranboo, and covered the ground in dirt blocks with the hope of them turning to grass. They also built up dark oak wood around the interior along the bottom.
Building the main farm[]
Tubbo and Sam began finishing up the interior, dealing with quickly spawning mobs that gave them both a fair bit of trouble. Eventually, they turned to Ph1LzA, asking him for help. The trio began working on the build, with Tubbo dying multiple times. Eret eventually came to help the trio, boosting the process. The farm's ground layer was covered in a layer of grass and structures were made of prismarine and spruce wood. Multiple slime chunks were also found, which was another task for Sam; to create a slime farm.
Using the XP farm[]
To use the XP farm, a non-establisher has to pay 32 iron ingots for usage. An establisher is allowed to use the XP farm for free.
