Project Dreamcatcher is a project developed by Tubbo and JackManifoldTV to build and test a nuclear missile system. The project was pitched as a defense system against powerful enemies by Tubbo, but Jack Manifold and Nihachu (working together in an alliance dubbed "Team Rocket") secretly planned to use the missiles to kill TommyInnit. The missile system was tested January 26, 2021 and was slated to be relocated on March 26, 2021. However, the same day, Jack and Tubbo found the nuke missing, leading to an investigation that still has not been solved.
The project marks the creation of nuclear weapons on the Dream SMP.
History[]
Post-Doomsday War[]
Following the Doomsday War and destruction of L'Manberg, Tubbo established the nation of Snowchester on January 7, 2021 and declared independence a few days later on January 21, 2021.[1][2]
During this time, Jack Manifold and Nihachu met and reflected on the cause of their suffering. While reflecting, Jack listed his enemies (Dream, Technoblade, and TommyInnit), and Niki pointed out that TommyInnit was the cause of most of the conflict on the server, leading the two to forming an alliance to kill him.[3]
Reveal of Project Dreamcatcher[]
On January 17, 2021, Tubbo revealed the plan to develop nuclear missiles. Tubbo shared that Snowchester was a cover for the plan and that the project would result in the ability to destroy massive amounts of land and defend against powerful enemies, more specifically Dream. Tubbo insisted that it is only for protection and compared it to the Manhattan Project. After sharing the idea with Jack Manifold, Tubbo gave Jack the position of Minister of Science as well as the second card holder. Jack was excited about this and agreed to this immediately, having his own secret agenda. Throughout the next few days Jack built a lab, a launch pad, and other structures for the project.[4]
A perfect opportunity[]
Immediately after being told about the nuclear project, Jack traveled to Niki's Underground City to tell Nihachu about it. The two saw it as the perfect opportunity to lure Tommy to the test site and have him "accidentally" killed. Jack continued on the project with Tubbo, befriending him and beginning to believe that they were best friends, convincing himself that he was helping Tubbo by becoming "Team Rocket" with Niki.[5] Meanwhile, Niki began constructing a cobblestone tower and creating stories to befriend Tommy once more.
Testing day[]
On January 26, 2021, the first nuclear missile test took place. Tubbo expressed excitement as he prepared for the launch, but Jack was worried as Niki hadn't contacted him. The two began warning nearby members, and Niki, failing to find Tommy, found her way to Snowchester.[6] Jack left Tubbo and went to speak to Niki, directing her to the Big Innit Hotel and telling her that he had paid off Sam Nook to instruct Tommy to gather spruce wood.[7]
Jack rejoined Tubbo and began to stall for time by asking for a delay to inform everyone on the server and by pretending to lose his keycard.[8] Niki found Tommy at the hotel, but was forced to wait for longer then they want as Tommy was messing around whilst talking to Sam. After leaving, Niki confronted Tommy and told him that she knew of a huge snowy taiga biome they could go to. Throughout the journey, Tommy constantly walked off, got distracted, ranted about Avengers: Endgame, and insulted Niki several times, even comparing her to Wilbur, which upset her a lot.[9]
After fifteen minutes, the two then put their keycards in, and the nuke was launched. They then suited up and made their way to the test site, finding that their project was successful.[10] Shortly after, Niki and Tommy discovered the crater. The two joined Jack and Tubbo's voice chat, and Tubbo built a bridge across the crater with Tommy whilst Jack went with Niki.[11] Neither Tommy nor Tubbo thought about foul play, believing Niki didn't know where the nuke would land and that she wouldn't hurt Tommy.[12] Jack shouted at Niki, bitterly blaming her for the failure of their plan. Niki suggested joining the Eggpire, as they also hated Tommy, and Jack suggested using Technoblade, but neither liked the others idea. The two rejoined Tommy and Tubbo shortly after.[13]
Test aftermath[]
Tommy and Tubbo held a party at Snowchester due to the success of the plan. Tubbo agreed to give Tommy a key card, but Tommy stole Jack's instead. Tommy gained radiation due to being near the crater for too long, leading him to throw up blood and giving Jack and Niki the opportunity to kill Tommy. Jack chose not to strike and stopped Niki; he reasoned that Tubbo wouldn't like Jack if he knew he was involved. The party concluded soon afterwards.[14] After the party, Tommy and Tubbo separated from Jack and Niki. Tommy and Tubbo traveled to the Big Innit Hotel while Jack and Niki discussed the events and their next plans, but ultimately got nowhere. Team Rocket would slowly fade away as Niki grew isolated from the rest of the world, hiding out in her secret city, and Jack became more obsessed with killing Tommy that he began neglecting their plans together in favor of his own.
Missing nuke[]
Growing to care for Snowchester, Tubbo decided to move Dreamcatcher on March 26, 2021 to a place where they wouldn't affect Snowchester or its new residents. Still trying to gain Tubbo's trust enough to kill Tommy, Jack agreed to help build a silo outside of Snowchester. However, when they return to remove the nukes, they discovered one of the nukes stolen. Jack was assigned to be detective and investigate to discover where it went, and Tubbo ordered that the loss of the nuke be kept a secret.[15]
On April 9, 2021, Tubbo constructed an interrogation room and interrogated Foolish Gamers. After asking multiple questions, Tubbo concluded that Foolish was not the thief and shared to him that a nuke went missing. With the details shared, Tubbo invited Foolish to help with the investigation. After it was mentioned that the nuke is likely hidden far away, Foolish mentioned HBomb as a possible suspect. The two traveled to Niki's underground city to interrogate HBomb, but received no useful information from him.[16]
Almost two months after the nuke went missing, Foolish hired Punz to investigate the missing nuke on May 19, 2021.[17] No development has been made since, and Jack eventually abandoned the role of detective after realizing it wouldn't help him kill Tommy.
Truth of the disappearance[]

After escaping from Pandora's Vault on November 12, 2022 Tubbo immediately led Tommy to the silo where they could hide out from Dream and Punz. Upon seeing a large nuclear missile, Tommy asked Tubbo what it was. Tubbo proceeded to tell Tommy about the project and why the crater out in the taiga biome happened. Tubbo then revealed that he was worried about how Jack was acting after the project's test fire, deciding to secretly move the nuke to the silo on his own. This meant Tubbo was the true mastermind behind the missing nuke. Using resources from the missile, Tubbo developed an ICBM in a new project, Project Early Dawn.[18]
Project Early Dawn missile launch[]
After Tubbo explained the background of the ICBM, Tommy asked more about the specifics of the damage it could cause. Tubbo replied, telling him that the original missiles destroyed some bedrock and that there's still radiation over the crater. He noted that the ICBM was more unstable than the original missiles and required a minimum of 21 hours to heat up and set the target location. Tommy then proposed one final gambit to kill Dream and Punz in one blow so the neither of them could immediately revive the other. The plan would require Tommy to go to the prison and challenge Dream and Punz to one final duel. With them both distracted for ten minutes, Tubbo would then fire the heated-up nuke straight for the prison. The blast would immediately kill Dream, Punz, and Tommy, all of them permanently dying for good. Tubbo was heavily against the plan, but was reluctantly convinced, as it was the only option they had left. Tommy and Tubbo left the silo and starting the process to arm the nuke, removing all the trapdoors, and opening the iron hatch. The nuke was then left alone to heat up.[19]
The following day, Jack received an alert on his NSI that one of the nukes were primed since the ICBM was connected to the original launch systems. Upon discovering the ICBM, Jack was in shock and awe. Not knowing that he wasn't supposed to be notified of the launch, Jack thought that Tubbo had intentionally sent a notification to him as a message for him to kill Tommy. He secretly attempted to reprogram the rocket to Tommy's house.[20]
Some time after Jack's reprogramming, Tubbo and Tommy executed their plan. While making his way to the ICBM, Tubbo found Jack controlling the silo doors. Tubbo explained the story behind the missing nuke. He then explained his and Tommy's plan to lure Dream and Punz to the warhead's destination. Jack asked if Tommy was going to die, and Tubbo confirmed it. However, since Tubbo did not mention that the target was the prison, Jack was not alarmed. Tubbo then allowed Jack to follow and watch him launch the ICBM. While the launch process was chaotic due to uncertainty, stress, and arguments between Tubbo and Jack, the nuke was successfully launched. After the nuke launched and Jack learned about the intended target being the prison, Jack told Tubbo that he had reprogrammed the path. Tubbo explained that the reprogramming potentially changed many factors that affected the trajectory and realized that it might not hit the prison, dooming his and Tommy's plan. Concerned about Tommy, Tubbo and Jack ran to the prison in an attempt to alert Tommy about the plan's failure in case the nuke landed elsewhere. However, they failed to make it in time. The warhead landed on or near the prison, killing Dream, Jack, Punz, Tommy, and Tubbo.[21]
Trivia[]
- All nuclear components are retextured items. The models were taken from the ICBM mod and touched up for version 1.16.3.[22]
- The nuclear missiles are retextured and named sticks.[23]
- Content creator Tubbo drew inspiration for the nuclear plot from watching Voltz Wars. The day before the character Tubbo announced the nuclear plans, content creator Tubbo discussed during Ranboo's stream how he had recently rewatched Voltz Wars.[24]
