Characters (The Masquerade)

This page is about the characters in the Tales from the SMP episode, 'The Masquerade'.

Karl

Main article: Karl Jacobs (SMP)

Karl attended Sir Billiam III's Masquerade ball as a Minecraft streamer. Karl was not recognized, so he was likely not invited; however, Sir Billiam III considered his profession to be extremely valuable and allowed him to attend.

After the Butler revealed himself as a murderer, Sir Billiam III brought Karl to the Egg. He justified the attendees' deaths by calling them only "upper middle class" and explaining that the Egg fed on poor people. He then ordered Karl's death, explaining that January meant Karl's revenue as a Minecraft streamer was very low.

The Butler killed Karl on Sir Billiam III's orders, making Karl the last person murdered during the Masquerade to feed the Egg.

After his death to the Butler, Karl visited The Inbetween for the first time. He walked around the palace and discovered books detailing how he could prevent his deterioration.

He then returned to his library in the Dream SMP and recorded the events of the Masquerade.

Unlike the other characters, Karl played as his regular character from the SMP, as he is a time traveler. However, these two characters may not be the same person because the Masquerade Karl held distasteful opinions (e.g. about poor people) that the SMP Karl likely does not share.

Appearance

Karl wore his usual SMP skin with a purple butterfly-shaped mask over his face.

Personality

Karl's Masquerade character demonstrated a distaste for 'poor people,' similar to Sir Billiam III.

However, he was more sympathetic than the others. He was disgusted by the murders that took place, even the one of Drew P. Wiener (whom the others considered too poor to matter).

Sir Billiam III

Sir Billiam III owned the mansion where the Masquerade took place. He may be the ancestor of Technoblade due to their similar anthropomorphic appearances and the Egg finding Technoblade "familiar." Other similarities include both being wanted criminals (and sharing similar wanted posters), both loving money, and both admiring withers.

At the end of the event, Sir Billiam III revealed that the Egg, which he nourished in his basement, had indoctrinated him.

According to Ranboo (the streamer), Sir Billiam III previously stole money and a child (who later became the Butler) from the town in the Wild West episode.

Sir Billiam III was played by Technoblade.

Appearance

Sir Billiam III was an anthropomorphic pig. He wore a half black, half gold mask with a matching suit.

Personality

Sir Billiam III looked down on the lower class, whom he called "commoners." As a result, he mistreated his Butler, even refusing to let him speak or have a name.

He showed little emotion towards the murders that took place; he only worried about them decreasing his property value.

Lyaria

Lyaria (alternatively spelled "Liaria" or "Learia") was a close friend of Sir Billiam III who attended the Masquerade. She was the second person murdered.

Lyaria was played by Nihachu.

Appearance

Lyaria had blonde hair and blue eyes. Her mask and gown were a soft blue with white highlights.

Personality

Lyaria also possessed a distaste for the lower class. She only respected Karl after realizing his billionaire status, and refused to touch Drew in Duck Duck Goose. She murdered Drew while under the influence of the Egg, so she did not react to his death much.

Oliver Arechtenshire Smichalist Cumbucket

Oliver attended the Masquerade. He was the fifth person murdered, and the Butler disguised his murder as a "heart attack."

Based on his unmasked appearance, Oliver was potentially an ancestor of Wilbur Soot and, by extension, Philza and Fundy.

Oliver was played by Fundy.

Appearance

Oliver resembled Wilbur Soot, with brown hair and dark brown eyes. He wore a black suit and fox mask, alluding to Fundy's (the SMP character's) usual Minecraft skin. His appearance is also similar to the real life Fundy who has brown hair with a white streak in it.

Personality

Oliver spoke in a high-pitched voice and mentioned London in almost every one of his sentences. He tended to shout and/or spell his name when under stress. He murdered James while under the influence of the Egg.

"If I'm the murderer, then how come I can play this jolly tune?"

Drew P. Wiener

Drew P. Wiener (nicknamed "Drew P. Penis" by James) attended the Masquerade despite being poor and uninvited. He had intended to attend a nudist party, but ended up at the wrong place. He was the first person murdered.

Drew was played by Quackity.

Appearance

Drew appeared similar to the default Minecraft skin. However, he only wore a red mask and lime-green undergarments.

Personality

Drew was a crude, loud person who had no sense of personal space or boundaries. For example, he insisted on attending the Masquerade and walked on the tables when the others were drinking wine.

"What's a butler?" "What does the 'B' in Vitamin B stand for?"

"I have one lord, and his name is Jesus H. Christ."

Lord Sebastian

Lord Sebastian attended the Masquerade. He was the third person murdered, and died while hiding next to Karl.

Lord Sebastian was played by BadBoyHalo.

Appearance

Lord Sebastian had brown hair and green eyes, and wore beige dress robes and a black mask. The red mark on his mask alluded to Badboyhalo's (the SMP character's) Minecraft skin.

Personality

Lord Sebastian spoke with a lilting accent. He was also an alcoholic and frequently visited the wine cellar, even while the lights were out. He murdered Lyaria under the influence of the Egg.

Lord Sebastian was very insistent on being called "Lord."

"Those are very quaint and fancy duds you have."

"Excuse me, it's Lord Sebastian."

James

James attended the Masquerade. He was the fourth person murdered and died next to Oliver, which made the other attendees suspect Oliver.

James was played by Sapnap.

Appearance

James had dark brown hair and navy blue eyes. He wore a white dress shirt, brown overalls, and a white mask that covered half of his face.

Karl complimented James, saying that James had a "nice bod." This alluded to Karl and Sapnap's relationship in the current SMP timeline.

Personality

James was depressed and awkward to talk to. When Sir Billiam III asked about his family life, James answered in short sentences and revealed that he had been divorced and lost custody of his children. He then asked for a drink.

When Karl complimented James for having a "nice bod," James was taken aback, as he had not received such a compliment before.

The Butler

The unnamed Butler (nicknamed "Ranbutler" by fans) worked for Sir Billiam III as a new hire. He apparently worked in very poor conditions and was not allowed to speak or make contact/interact with the attendees of the Masquerade.

At the end of the episode, the Butler revealed that he had known about the murders all along.

According to Ranboo (the streamer), Sir Billiam III had stolen the Butler as a small child from the town in The Wild West whilst stealing money.

The butler was played by Ranboo.

Appearance

The butler had brown hair and gray eyes. He wore a white shirt, black vest, and dress pants. His mask was black and white with a gold outline and lime and red highlights. The colors of his mask alluded to Ranboo's (the SMP character's) Minecraft skin.

Personality

The Butler was rarely allowed to speak, but showed curiosity throughout the party. He occasionally broke Sir Billiam III's rules by glancing at partygoers, and looked away quickly when caught. He was unaware of the outside world and to workers' rights, and his first question concerned what a "union" was.

He murdered Oliver and told Karl that Oliver had died from a heart attack. He then killed Karl when commanded by Sir Billiam III.
