The Overseers are demi-gods created by DreamXD to oversee The Inbetween and The Other Side. The characters are played by Jack Manifold. Each overseer resides in their respective dimensions.

Personality[]

The Overseers both have the unanimous respect to duty based on their separate worlds. They both have the main purpose of convincing Karl to stay in their world and have a serious, no-nonsense demeanor.

The Overseer of the Other Side has the mindset that Karl contributes to the greater good of all of past and future. They seemed rather apathetic to Karl's present struggles, stating that the good of the entire timeline was more important than Karl's own memory of his friends. They encouraged Karl to make decisions based the outward environment and how his feelings would affect their physical world in the long run.[1]

On the contrary, the Overseer of the Inbetween believed in personal development over supposedly saving the timeline, claiming they wanted to help Karl gain a better sense of his powers and control where and when he could travel in time, as well as preventing Karl's memory loss. They have the outlook of weighing inner life and feeling of the present before considering the supposed outward repercussions.[2]

History[]

Prior to the official introduction and meetings, the Overseers communicated with Karl Jacobs via books.

Introduction[]

The Overseers were both introduced to Karl Jacobs by DreamXD in a conversation between the two about time traveling in DreamXD's clock after Karl's visit to The Labyrinth of Ceaseless Agony. During Karl's first visit to DreamXD's clock, Dream allowed Karl to visit both dimensions to meet each Overseer and learn more about each dimension.[3]

Karl first chose to visit The Other Side, saying he didn't trust the Inbetween. There, the Overseer of the Other Side described the workings of the dimension. The Overseer claimed that Karl needed to stay in the Other Side and showed him visions of his friends he had made during previous time-travelling adventures. When enquired about why they were unable to interact and speak with Karl, the Overseer replied that Karl needed to stay for his memories to manifest, which would eventually bring his friends to life and allow him to interact with them.[4]

The Overseer insisted on saving the timeline and that the more time Karl didn't stay in the Other Side, the more time he was wasting. Feeling overwhelmed and slightly suspicious, Karl told the Overseer he would consider it, but decided to leave for the time being.[1]

Karl returned to DreamXD's world and traveled to the Inbetween to meet its overseer. When asked about the events of the last time he visited the castle, the Overseer said that they had been the one communicating with Karl through the books. However, the Overseer strangely denied any association with or knowledge of the horrors Karl had witnessed, such as the blood in the secret room, the derealization Karl had gone through, and the written manipulative threats in the books. Karl dismissed this, although slightly suspicious.[5]

The Inbetween's Overseer proposed that they, along with their dimension, would be able to help Karl discover more of his powers, time travel without losing memory, and rejoin all his friends. Remembering what the other Overseer had said, Karl contemplated whether playing hero or self-development would be better. The Inbetween's Overseer then showed a sense of closer empathy compared to their counterpart, saying that Karl was only really a child and that he didn't deserve to be put through all of his troubles.[6]
